Independence
Day Holiday
Southern style barbecue will be served to satisfy the visitor with a sizzling appetite. Foot stomping and hand clapping music will be provided. Families playing games will compete through-out the day with seed spitting, sack racing, chasing hoops and pitching shoes. As the sun beams down, we gather for lemonade and checkers on the cool covered porches, school house play with spelling bees that all good spellers will look at as fun, and a large slice of watermelon before the day is done. The blacksmith’s anvil in keeping with 1850s tradition of “The Blowing of the Anvil” is launched to celebrate another year of Independence every hour on the hour. Village craftsmen bring to life work skills before specialized machines had influence on West Georgia-1850. The village is home to basket making, woodworking, weaving, quilting, pottery, farm house life, rag rug construction, wagon rides, and wood stove cooking combined with period landscape, historic buildings, and authentic furnishings.
